This is from Lillie McFerrin‘s five sentence fiction prompt, Character. She writes that she would like to “hear five sentences about one of your main characters in your NaNo or other WIP”, and my response is from a work in progress:
He is, she is, an array of names travelling in fine boots.
A practiced charmer with a penchant for knowledge, his confidence springs from a forbidden science.
Her morals are uncertain and her kindness unpredictable, but her laugh cannot fail to delight.
And in spite of a flippant manner, a seemingly fickle nature, his ambition is guarded seriously.
For she is too self-interested to make her gambles without just cause.
This line is priceless: “Her morals are uncertain and her kindness unpredictable, but her laugh cannot fail to delight.”
Thank you! I thought of that between an assignment and a meeting, I’m glad it worked 🙂
Love it! I think I’m going to use this exercise for my characters for NaNo, I really need them to start assuming the depth that I know they have!
Thanks, yeah, its a neat idea!
This is great! I love your style of writing. “For she is too self-interested to make her gambles without just cause.”- That’s me in a nutshell.
Thank you, I’m glad it was relatable! I’m pretty excited about this character as my first whose very gender is unknown
Gender ambiguity-love it!
